Integrating Behaviour, Economics, and Leadership

Founded in Botswana in 2000, Psychologists Botswana integrates clinical psychology, behavioural science, and applied economics to support individuals, organisations, and national development.

A Calling to Serve

Psychologists Botswana was built out of necessity.

In the mid-1990s, Botswana had no qualified clinical psychologists. At a time when the country was developing economically and institutionally, access to structured behavioural and mental health support was limited.

What began as academic curiosity became conviction.

While studying Economics and Business Administration at Yale University, Dr Kefentse Mzwinila encountered psychology as a new way of understanding life, decision-making, and human behaviour. Rather than abandon one discipline for the other, he pursued both, recognising that economic development and human development are inseparable.

In the earliest years, Dr Mzwinila worked in Botswana’s largest government hospital (Princess Marina Hospital) and served in the military. Soon after, individual, couples, family, and corporate engagements and services followed.

The work that was in the early days was primarily personal and direct:-

  • Financial Counselling
  • Corporate – Transformation Impact Management
  • Corporate – Organisational Restructuring
  • Corporate – Wellness and Employee Assistance Programs
  • Corporate – Applied Research
  • Corporate – Leadership Assessment and Development

Each case revealed something deeper. Emotional well-being was not isolated. It was interconnected with work environments, financial stability, leadership structures, and broader societal systems.

Then, Psychologists Botswana was formally established in 2000, grounded in this simple belief.

“If you strengthen the individual, you strengthen the nation.”

Clinical Psychology

Evidence-based psychological assessment and therapeutic support designed to strengthen emotional resilience, behavioural clarity, and personal stability for individuals, couples, families, and senior leaders.

Organisational & Leadership Advisory

Behavioural science applied to leadership development, executive decision-making, workplace dynamics, and institutional governance. Designed to support organisations navigating complexity, transformation, and strategic growth.

Applied Economics & Institutional Advisory

Integrating behavioural science with economic systems thinking to support organisational strategy, governance frameworks, research insight, and infrastructure performance.

Seeing the Larger Pattern

Over time, a pattern became unmistakable.

Many of the stressors and triggers individuals carried home each day originated in the workplace. Leadership instability, unresolved conflict, economic strain, and organisational dysfunction were shaping families and communities.

If psychology remained confined to the therapy room, its impact would be limited.

However, if behavioural science could be applied where both micro and macro economic decisions affect hundreds (or even thousands) of people, the societal impact could multiply.

Thus, Psychologists Botswana started to support corporate Botswana.

This was not a departure from service; it was an expansion of it.

Clinical Psychology

Evidence-based psychological assessment, therapy, and behavioural support designed to strengthen individual resilience and emotional well-being.

Behavioural Science

Applying scientific insight into human decision-making, behaviour patterns, and cognitive processes to improve personal and organisational outcomes.

Leadership Development

Structured psychological insight supporting executives and leaders to strengthen judgement, stability, and decision-making under pressure.

Organisational Transformation

Behavioural analysis applied to institutional systems, workplace dynamics, and governance structures to improve organisational performance.

Applied Economics Insight

Integrating economic thinking with behavioural science to understand how financial pressure, incentives, and decision environments influence human behaviour.

Financial Behaviour & Resilience

Supporting individuals and families to develop healthier financial behaviour patterns that reinforce long-term stability and wellbeing.

Integrating Behaviour, Economics, and Leadership

Psychological resilience could not be separated from financial stability, and this insight led to a critical expansion of the practice.

Bridget Mzwinila, with a background in accounting and financial advisory, joined the practice to strengthen the bridge between behavioural science and financial systems.

Bridget is a personal financial advisor and behavioural finance specialist bringing over a decade of experience supporting individuals and organisations in navigating complex financial decisions with clarity and confidence. Bridget’s works at the intersection of financial planning and human behaviour, recognising that sustainable financial health is as much about mindset and decision-making as it is about numbers.

Her expertise added a structured financial dimension to the clinical and organisational interventions already in place.

Psychologists Botswana evolved to operate at the intersection of:

The integration of these disciplines ENABLED the practice to support:

The guiding belief remains consistent:

When Behavioral Sciences, leadership dynamics, and Applied Economics are aligned, institutional performance improves exponentially.

As Botswana’s needs evolved, so did the practice.

Through leadership in national service, public policy, infrastructure development, and strategic governance, the principles of behavioural science have been applied at the national and international scale, shaping systems that influence daily life across Botswana.

Having supported individuals, organisations, and institutions across nearly every major sector of the economy, Psychologists Botswana has expanded into South Africa. The organisation serves a dynamic and complex market while maintaining the same foundational commitment of

Yet the foundation remains unchanged:

Empower the individual. Strengthen the institution. Advance the nation.
